Mashed potatoes are a staple at many Thanksgiving dinners. While it’s difficult to improve upon such a classic dish, it certainly is fun to mix things up! Start a new tradition this year by mashing an unexpected vegetable for your Thanksgiving dinner. Try my “Ricotta-Parsnip Mash with Caramelized Shallots and Pine Nuts” or “Curried Mashed [...]

This morning I made the best pancakes I’ve ever produced at home. Fluffy!
Ingredients:
¾ cup rice milk
1 ½  tbs white vinegar
½ cup whole-wheat flour
½ cup all-purpose flour

Classified as a speed athlete, I’m not generally in the business of slow – but when it comes to food, I am happy to take my time.
Recently, during my first visit to a small diner here in Calgary, AB – I happened to notice the terms “Slow Food” written on the back of the staff [...]

Let’s say you head to the farmers’ market and come face to face with a small bushel of Roma tomatoes that look too tasty to pass up. What are you going to do? Make your own sauce, of course! Romas are perfect for the task since they tend to be meatier with less liquid and [...]

While much of the country is starting to cool down as it transitions from summer to fall, it unfortunately seems to be only getting hotter down here in Austin, Texas.  I’m pretty sure that my thermometer has read over 100 degrees for at least the past two months- no joke.  Not only is the heat [...]

My best friend recently returned from a summer-long trip to her hometown of São Paulo, Brazil. We spent the last few days catching up, and I was delighted to hear tales of her extensive travels. I most enjoyed learning about the local cuisine. There is no doubt that Brazil is home to enviable farmer’s markets [...]

If you heard Garrett’s interview after winning U.S. Nationals in the 100 freestyle, you know he mentioned having a sweet potato before the race. It is on his list of staples. Now he certainly didn’t grill one at his hotel in Palo Alto. His was microwaved. Check out this easy recipe for your next sweet [...]
