Have you ever made fresh pasta? If not, here’s a secret, it’s not as hard as you think. Below is a pretty near fool-proof recipe for fresh pasta dough. Once you get the basic recipe down you can add spinach, herbs or other flavors. Roll the dough flat, and sheets of [...]

From the AthleticFoodie Test Kitchen:
Lots of people criticize vegan and vegetarian recipes as not being hearty. Sometimes that can be true. Not with the black bean and bulgur wheat chili we made recently. This one definitely sticks to your ribs. It’s based on “Vegetarian Chile” from the 1992 version of “The Moosewood Cookbook by a [...]

What better way to spend a cold and blustery day than experimenting with some admittedly unusual pizza? That’s what we did this past week with delicious results.
Homemade pizza is regular fare at our house. This time, though, we decided to try something quite different: A crust of Sprouted 7 Grain Pizza [...]

I made this delicious and ridiculously easy butternut squash soup after learning about a similar recipe while studying at Maison Troigros in Roanne, France. I recently cooked it for a TV audience. Enjoy!

Makes 6 ½ to 7 cups

They’re not exactly a glamorous cut. While you might see them on the placard adorning a food truck at the state fair, you are not likely to find them on a restaurant menu. Most people probably never encounter one outside of Thanksgiving.  Regardless, turkey legs are a delicious, nutritious [...]

Mashed potatoes are a staple at many Thanksgiving dinners. While it’s difficult to improve upon such a classic dish, it certainly is fun to mix things up! Start a new tradition this year by mashing an unexpected vegetable for your Thanksgiving dinner. Try my “Ricotta-Parsnip Mash with Caramelized Shallots and Pine Nuts” or “Curried Mashed [...]

For as long as I can remember I’ve been a huge daydreamer. Recently, a quarterly food magazine called Lucky Peach was released and has taken my daydreaming to a whole different level. Actually, Lucky Peach is more like a journey through one type of cuisine that will make your mind dance and your mouth water. [...]

Just once a year, usually during the first or second weekend of October, I strip the garden of the last tomatoes and make Green and Gold tomato soup. I wish I could say the recipe used each time is exact. It’s not. You see, I never know how many tomatoes will be left and the [...]
