It seems like everything we do these days is “e- this, or e-that.” We are living in a world where technology keeps advancing and more services are being offered online. Did you ever think there would come a day when your personal trainer could be online? Well, that day has come! It seems a bit odd, to do something physical with a coach across the world, doesn’t it? Well, it is happening and is currently one of the fastest growing fitness trends.
How does virtual training work, you ask? There are a variety of companies, such as the newly launched Sharecare site from Dr. Oz. In general, users log in to a platform in which they receive their workouts. A Certified Personal Trainer, in most cases, monitors these workouts. The user can print their workout off and it is usually individualized to what equipment is available to that user. For example, if a trainer knows that the individual will be working out at home with limited accessibility to equipment, they may be given a workout that consists fully of body-weight exercises. If a user has access to a full gym, their workout may consist of various weight training and cardio equipment. Video libraries are often provided to show proper technique prior to working out.
Once the user completes their workout, they will usually need to enter feedback into their platform about how their workout went. This can be as simple as clicking something that says to the trainer that they did the workout as prescribed, or they may put in any modifications they did. The trainer then receives the feedback and is able to make the next workout appropriate for the users level of training.
Many virtual training systems also incorporate a nutrition-tracking program and general nutrition recommendations based on the users input of information. Virtual training packages can be very beneficial to those who want the advantage of a personal trainer with a lower cost. Virtual training has proven to be successful in many cases. If you are thinking that it might be something you want to pursue, make sure that the trainers have credentials and that it is a reputable site. Always consult with your doctor before beginning an exercise program.
