Have you ever wondered where your favorite holiday treats “tip in” on the scale?  Here is a quick and simple guide to navigating your holiday treats!

Pecan pie is high in calories

  • Eggnog: 1 cup contains between 200 and 400 calories depending on the variety and whether it is alcoholic or not; look for a low fat version!
  • Hot Chocolate: 1 cup made with whole milk tips in around 200 calories before whipped cream; stay away from the whipped cream and use nonfat milk
  • Spiced Cider: 1 cup has about 120 calories before whipped cream; again, stay away from the whipped cream!
  • Hot Buttered Rum: 1 cup has about 300 calories! Not much help with this one!
  • 1 slice Pecan Pie: about 500 calories without whipped cream, try pumpkin pie instead to save a couple hundred calories
  • 2 pieces of fudge: about 140 calories, try fruit dipped in chocolate instead
  • 1 (3.5oz) serving peanut brittle: 450 calories! might as well stay away from this one
  • Eating veggies and salsa saves you about 200 calories compared to chips and dip
  • Try shrimp cocktail over wings to save at least 200 calories

If you follow these and some of the previous holiday tips I have given you, you should be well prepared to avoid that dreaded holiday weight gain! Remember to stay active and don’t ever go to a party hungry!!
