Candy is not officially considered (by the government) to be a food in Canada. In fact, dietary guidelines advise them to, “limit sugar, fat, salt and alcohol.” Does it make a difference in how people eat? Apparently not. Canadians are set to spend some $300 million in October alone on Candy.
Despite what their food guidelines say, [...]

My last watermelon was mushy and tasted slightly fermented.  I guess its pretty safe to say that watermelon season is coming to a close.  Sad news for me.  Watermelon became my daily treat this summer, its sweet and filling nature was the perfect ending to a warm day.
On the plus side, saying goodbye to watermelons [...]

When you decide to eat out you’re automatically choosing to eat more sodium, fat, and calories than when you cook at home… however, you don’t always have to “spoil” your healthy eating when choosing to eat at a restaurant.  There are some things you should be aware of that will help you make better choices. Ever wonder about the arm band everyone wears on the Biggest Loser? I used to think it was just a heart rate monitor. That would make sense. Well, it isn’t. The device is called Body Bugg.  When my son went to the ESPY Awards for his gold medal win in the Beijing Olympics, the winners [...]

Oh no…ate the last tomato and peppers from our Wisconsin garden yesterday. This morning, I swung into a local apple orchard (self serve early on Sunday) and grabbed a bag of apples. The sign above them, “Thanks, closing today.” The farmer’s market downtown has two more weekends. Uhhh…

Being sick is the pits!  Your body hurts, head is congested and a bed and hot bowl of soup seems to be the only relief.
When I was younger, my mom would make me a nice bowl of Chicken Noodle Soup or a family favorite, Fedelini Soup, which her Nonna made for her.  Fedelini Soup is [...]

Spices and herbs provide a great way to make delicious and healthy dishes without using a lot of fat and sodium.  Spices and herbs have been used in cooking for more than two thousand years and there is a good reason! They make food taste delicious! (You’re more likely to stick with healthy food if [...]

INSANITY. It really is the name of the exercise program I have been doing for the past five weeks. Actually, I’m insane for even trying it. It’s exhausting, sweat producing craziness. I have never sweat in my entire life, except under the “boobs.” I have always thought there was something [...]

First of all, we bought the thing. No paid endorsement here. Second, I was a skeptic but agreed to get one as an anniversary present for my wife. (Better than a vacuum, hey?) Third, a Vita-Mix is pretty expensive–$450 and up. Fourth, and most important, we love it and use the thing virtually every day.
Due [...]

Some days I wish I was Samantha from Bewitched, just wiggle my nose and POOF dinner is hot and ready on the table.
This week I had a series of those days.  I just wanted a good, hearty meal to appear in front of me with little to no work involved.  I suppose this is the [...]
